Review: Clinique All About Eyes

Eye creams are a bit of a mystery to me, I haven't used many so I don't know what I like just yet. However, being in my late 20's now, I think it's crucial that I start using one. On the recommendation of a couple of people, I purchased the Clinique All About Eyes eye cream recently. This retails for $37CAD for 15ml (0.5oz). I think this is the most I have ever paid for something so small, but as with any eye cream, it will last you forever since you only need a tiny amount everyday. I had a $10 off $50 coupon for The Bay, click here for that, so I used that, and purchased the new Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer as well (loving that and will review soon!).

Clinique's website describes this as "Diminishes the appearance of eye puffs, darkness, fine lines. Lightweight, non-creep, cream/gel formula actually helps hold eye makeup in place. For use morning and night, under eyes and on the lids." I think this product is good as a starter eye cream, if you are still young and not worried about wrinkles yet. The thicker version, All About Eyes Rich mentions diminishing the appearance of fine lines, but when I swatched that one it seems much thicker to me, so I passed on it.

For myself, I was looking for something to hydrate and moisturize my eyes, since they get dry and tired looking. Also, every eye cream seems to irritate my eyes, makes them water and makes me break out. So I wanted something very light, and this eye cream is definitely that. The packaging I am not a fan of, I prefer something with a pump or squeeze tube, I have a couple of eye creams from Garnier and The Body Shop that I prefer over this.

The texture is like a gel, similar to the Moisture Surge but more opaque. It feels very light and absorbs quickly into my skin. It makes for a good base for under-eye concealer, I know you aren't supposed to use face cream under your eyes. Of all the times I've bought stuff from Clinique, this product was never included in a gift with purchase, if it were I would of probably passed on buying the full size. I think this is just okay, nothing spectacular and just average for what it does, I think you could find something comparable for a lot less money in the drugstore.

Have you tried Clinique's All About Eyes? What's your favourite eye cream?

Thank you for this review! I've been trying to find a good eye cream...but I don't know which are good to try. I'll see if the ones you mentioned will work for me. ^^

great review!! I've always been so curious about this product...

btw, (about the Seche Vite top coat) I thought it was just me... I'm starting to hate it coz it got really really thick & harder to apply... but I kept givin it another chance.... but I guess it really gets like that?? awww.. that's sad coz I love that top coat too.... I wonder if a little drop of thinner would resolve this problem?

I have tried a few eyecreams since I have dark shadows around my eyes, but still haven't found I truly love. However, even if I sometimes buy eye creams that are more expensive its not like I see lots of difference.

They were giving away samples of clinique stuff in the uk version of glamour and this was on of them. I didnt think id like it but its actually really good, the texture leaves the eye area soo soft and smooth. Its defiantly a good one at moisturizing and perfect for before under eye concealer :)

The necessity of eye creams is something I'm not 100% convinced of yet. I do use one but I don't see a difference from when I don't (I do often just work up the facial moisturizer around the eyes.) But since this is more of a preventative measure than to reverse a change, I suppose we'll see? Just in case, I did get this same cream for my dry-skinned sister. :)

Great review! I agree, it is a very light weight cream, that absorbs quickly. Eye creams confuse me though... (while they're cool that they keep your undereye concealer in place= big bonus!)I've heard from derms they're a gimmick and face creams can do a similar job? You said face creams aren't supposed to go under the eye? Why? Because they don't absorb well? I suppose under eye creams are packed with more "specified/nutrient rich" ingredients... Just curious, I'm in my mid-20s and I think I should be investing in some in the near future- ha ha ha. Thanks for the awesome review- and the tip about The Bay coupon!!! Have a great day :)

I still haven't found an eye cream that's really great and I've been hunting for a long time. I want to try a Vichy or Roc one next with retinol. I've heard good things about those.

are you supposed to use an eyecream before you put on concealer? i thought you were only supposed to use eye cream at night o_O

oh no!

I think it's always hard to tell if an eye cream works or not, especially when your young and don't really have fine lines. I've used some from Avon, Lanc¸ome and I'm currently using one from Burt's Bees, and if you would ask me, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one was the best.

@19 year old student - yes eye creams go under concealer.

@Makeup owns my heart - those UK samples are amazing! If I were in the UK I would of bought every magazines so that I could have all the samples, they look great, we don't have anything like that here.

I have tried this and like it but my fave is from Keihls and it's their avocado one. It's extermily rich and not to everyone's taste. I also love Origin's ginizip and origins eye doctor. Love eye creams in general. xx
