Mascara Monday: Revlon Grow Luscious

There are many products on the market right now that claim to strengthen and improve the appearance and health of your lashes. I am a sucker for these products because I want lusher looking lashes, who doesn't right? Revlon isn't a brand that I turn to for mascara however, and the Fabulash name turned me off because I have tried the Fabulash mascara and it was a huge disappointment. I assumed that the design of this brush would be similar to that one, but it can't be any more different. I can't comment on whether this mascara improved my lashes since I've only used it for a few days, but I will tell you how it applies and if I like it. I got this for under $7 at Zellers (during 30% off Revlon sale), but if you are in Canada, check out Walmart this week, they have a 2 pack on for $8.xx.

Revlon's Grow Luscious claims to "help lashes grow stronger while visibly adding length and volume." Studies showed that "96% of women who tested the non-waterproof version saw instantly longer and lusher lashes". Does it stand up to it's claims? When this first came out, I read a few negative reviews, but since mostly positive. Honestly, I do not expect this mascara to do miracles on my lashes, but I do hope for a decent mascara that I will enjoy using and one that will give me length and volume.

This mascara comes in a green tube, which is something different, definitely easy to find in your purse. So let's talk about the brush, it is very large. This brush reminds me of the Too Faced Lash Injection or Prestige My Biggest Lashes brush (picture above). It's overwhelming at first and I think those with small eyes will have trouble with the large brush. The brush is the traditional wired bristles, which I prefer in mascaras. I have it in the colour "002 Black" here. The formula of this mascara is pretty much close to perfect for me, not too wet, does not dry too fast so you can add multiple coats. It does not leave my lashes brittle or hard whatsoever, which is great.

The result that this mascara gives is similar to that of Maybelline's Full and Soft in my opinion. It gives me close to that "false lashes" look that I want to achieve. The brush is soft and glides through evenly. It gives lush, soft, volumized and long lashes. No smudging or flaking occurred so far. I really enjoy this mascara, and am going to use it exclusively for the next few weeks and will update you on any changes to my lashes.

Have you used this mascara? What results did you experience?

Whhhhy do you do this to me?! hahah I've been telling myself for the last month that it's all hocus-pocus, (you know... the self-arguing we were talking about?) to stop myself from buying this. I would however love to know if the grow stuff works... even if it makes lashes stronger I would be super happy, since my lashes are fair and short.

Looks nice! I have only tried one Revlon mascara, and it sucked. I forget the name, but it was in a silver tube.

@Holly - I doubt it makes your lashes grow, there is no mention of what studies were done on the revlon website or who did the studies, and they say that women "instantly saw" change in their lashes. Well I see change every time I wear mascara, but once I take it off, it's gone too. In any case, I like how the mascara looks on my lashes, so it's all good.

@Cosmetics Aficionado - The 3D one! Yes that one was terribly bad.

It's great to hear that this one gives a similar effect to Maybelline Full N Soft! That one is an oldie favourite, and has been hard to find at most stores local to me, especially the waterproof one. I had to haul one back from the US last time I was across the border. How do those two's brushes compare?

@stuffedpandapuppet - The grow luscious is considerably fatter and bigger than the full and soft. Full and soft is one of my all-time favourite mascara. :)

I haven't tried this one yet but I was turned off by Fabulash. It did give you nice lashes:)

Your lashes look wonderful! I love that fluttery effect. I'm loving Maybelline full n soft right now, too. It's natural but still gives me "wow" lashes!

I liked it, I use it pretty much everyday, even though I have about a million mascaras on the go.

At first I thought that maybe it had made a difference in my lashes, since I know one side is visibly shorter, but I think it is just in the application and that I am able to get a better cover than other mascaras. There is a chemical that is found in glaucoma meds that make lashes grow, but it wouldn't be possible for them to have that in their product without having safety info on the label (and charging major $$$ for it) longest comment ever...

@Bailey - your review made me want to get it totally... long comments are fine by me! :)

Thanks for the review and the tip about the mascara being on sale at Walmart. I will definitely have to get one if it can make my lashes look like yours in the photos. Did you curl your lashes before you applied your mascara in the photos?
I dislike Revlon mascaras in general. The last one that I bought from them was the Double Twist one, and it was an all around dud.

Justine (Productrater) said... Best Blogger Tips

@Junerose - yes I always curl my lashes prior. Ya, the double twist one got terrible reviews, I didn't buy that one, but I found Annabelle made a mascara that looked like that, and it sucked too.

ARGH! I already have 5 or 6 opened mascaras that I rotate, and I have 5 or 6 waiting in the wings, but now I have to have this one! I want my lashes to look like yours. Are you sure you really like this one, it must smudge or flake by the end of the day, right? Or it makes your eyes water and itch, huh? Oh all right, I'll go get it and add it to the pile...
