Mascara Monday: Maybelline Define a Lash Volume Review

I apologize about my late post tonight, it's Thanksgiving Day in Canada and I've been spending time with my family. I wasn't going to post today, but since it's Mascara Mondays, I just couldn't miss a day! I look forward to writing these posts every week, I hope you enjoy reading them. I have a ton of mascara and this helps me evaluate my mascara stash. Today's mascara review is the Maybelline Define a Lash Volume. It comes in a pretty pinky red tube. It is described as a "zero clump volumizing mascara (that) creates voluptuous volume with clean definition." I got this in a pack of 2 for the price of 1 type offer.

The Define a lash volume mascara is basically the same as the regular Define a lash, that comes in a green tube except it's supposed to give volume. Looking at the brushes back to back here, I think they look the same. The regular one is in 'brownish black' that's why it's so light in colour. The brush looks slightly fatter on the regular version. This brush disappoints me, it doesn't look like it would perform any differently, and guess what it doesn't.

This brush is supposed to be a "patented shaped-to-the-lash brush", I don't really see that. The formulation of this mascara is VERY wet and there starts my first problem with this mascara. I often have my top and bottom lashes stick together when my mascara isn't totally dry, so I like to have something that isn't too wet and dries fast. It's also really thick, which leaves clumps on my lashes and does not coat evenly. The brush on this is VERY bendy too, it takes little effort to bend it in all directions (not cool). When I try to pick up my baby lashes on the inside of my eyes, it deposits too much mascara there because of the brush design.

I think this mascara does define your lashes, but does not give volume, so it got halfway there. It does not live up to it's name. I found this mascara hard to work with because of the awkward brush and wet formula. I lack of volume it provides is just the same as the original Define a lash. This mascara is very average at best and I will not be re-purchasing it.

Have you tried this mascara? Did you like it?

Wow. It's crazy that one person can love a mascara and another not so much. I am a huge fan of both varieties of this mascara. I love that there is never any clumps at all.

It's too bad you don't like it much. Do you have a fave mascara? I'm curious because I am in the middle of posting a review of every mascara I have at the moment (all 17 of them). Lol. If you are interested, you can find them over at www.becsbeautybuzz.blogspot.com

Cheers,

@Rebecca - different strokes for different folks. I have a certain effect that I like mascara to give my lashes and this wasn't it. Mostly just didn't like it cause it was super bendy of a brush and super wet. I have about the same amount of mascara as you.. check out my mascara collection post, it's insane.

@Amanda Popko - the directions say not to let it dry between coats, although it would be really hard to let it dry cause it sooo wet. I wiggle and I put on 2-3 coats normally.

You do? Really? Ok, that makes me feel slightly less of a mascara hoarder. Lol

@Rebecca - my search engine doesn't seem to be working right for some reason.
