Review: Sigma Bare Eyeshadow Palette

Sigma recently came out with new eyeshadow palettes. If you remember back in the day when they first started getting big Sigma used to have a makeup line, so it's nice that they are bringing out makeup items again. There are three palettes available: Bare (neutral tones), Dare (warm bright colours) and Flare (green and purples). These palettes are $35 each. I was sent all three palettes for review and will be doing separate posts on all three. It's just easier to do three because I want to do separate swatches and talk about the brushes that you get etc.

Bare was the palette that I was most excited about, and I think most people were because it's the most wearable out of the three. The packaging on these palettes may resemble the Urban Decay Naked Palette slightly, since there is a mirror, shadows going across and a compartment for a brush. The palettes comes with a box overtop the actual palette (on the bottom) and a plastic film on the shadows too so it doesn't get messy in shipping (I removed this).

One of the first things that I noticed about this palette is how bulky and large the packaging is. It's quite heavy too, I think they could of definitely made this lighter and used less cardboard As you can tell the part where the brush sits is quite thick and the shadows definitely do not go all the way down in the box. I wouldn't take this traveling with me, it's simply too large.

The palettes come with 8 shadows, Bare contains netural, subtle shades to use for everyday. There is a shimmery black, a matte black, 4 nice neutral lid or crease tones and two lighter lid or highlighter shade. I think the colours they chose were pretty good, there is a good balance of matte/satin and shimmer shades. The shadows are quite good quality, pigmentation is nice and they aren't too chalky.

Each palette also comes with a double-ended makeup brush, which is handy you can use it to apply these shadows. Bare comes with their E25 blending brush and the E30 pencil brush. I like that the brushes differ palette to palette so you get a variety of brushes.

And most importantly the swatches of the shadows. The swatches are nicely pigmented, these are shown without any primer underneath on bare skin. Shine is a shimmery black which does show up quite a bit, Control is perhaps not as pigmented as some would like for a matte black. The darker colours in this are so pigmented that they stained my arm and fingers after doing the swatches, so be careful with that. I like the center colours the best out of this, Snoop a taupe, Hitch chocolate brown, Act neutral brown and Command a gold. Elope and Approach are very smooth which surprised me because usually light shadows like this are usually poor in palettes.

Would I recommend this product? Aside from the bulkiness of the packaging, the shadows are pigmented and nice quality, I would suggest this palette if you are looking for basic neutral looks.

The palettes did kind of look interesting to me. I am glad Sigma is branching out into other areas. I doubt I will pick up this particular palette, simply because of my neutral overload, but I have to admit the shades look really nice! Thanks for the swatches!

It looks okay, but nothing I haven't seen before if you know what I mean. I think this would be good if you're just starting out in makeup, but at this stage in my makeup addiction, I look for more unique colours and finishes. Nice review!

Great review, as always! I would like the Flare palette because I love purples.

I definitely agree with Tracy. The colors are okay but are easily duped. I was hoping for a bigger BANG to come with Sigma's return to makeup.

Not sure I will pick this palette, it is a little bit déjà vu! LOL I just got the naked palette and I love the colours and the packaging more than this one .

Thats too bad the packaging is bulky as I had been thinking it would be ideal for travel. I really like the shade selection as I would literally wear every color in this palette. Looking forward to the rest of your reviews on these new palettes!

I've seen several spin-offs of the Naked palette but I don't think anything can top it (at least, from what I've seen). This is cute, but it seems a little overpriced for a brand that's not considered high end. Thanks for the review!
