American Apparel: Trenchcoat and Rouge

Did you like my American Apparel swatches yesterday? Hope you aren't sick of them, I have a couple more here today. These two come from the new shades that they've recently added. These two shades are pretty unique I think, which is something AA polishes are known for.

Trenchcoat is like a muted mustard colour. I imagined it would be a tan, but once I received it, I realized it definitely was not. A shade that you are either going to love or hate I think. I don't know how I feel about this, it reminds me of Misa's Hot Couture a bit. This one is going to my cousin, we will see what she thinks of it. It applies very nicely.

American Apparel: African Violet, Coney Island and Berry

I love American Apparel nail polishes, most are opaque in one coat (I know one coat!), they are all creme finishes and they come in cute square bottles. They have recently added some new colours to their collection, I checked my local AA store for them last night and they only had one new colour in stock (African Violet), they hadn't received any others yet. I will show that one to you today as well as some old colours. They sell for $7.50CAD, or 3 for $18, so of course I bought 3.

American Apparel Nail Polishes: Mouse, Factory Grey and California Trooper Swatches and Review

American Apparel nail polishes are awesome in my opinion. The bottles are rectangular and flat so they fit together nicely for storage, they have a variety of colours and they apply very nicely, great pigmentation. Their polishes are all cremes, which is my favourite finish. My only complaint about them is the brush stem design, their brushes are really tall, and the entire thing gets dipped into the polish bottle, so it picks up lots of product and you have to be careful not to spill it all over the place. I have dropped blobs of it on my coffee table, sink, and other areas where I do my nails, but if you are careful (I am clumsy at times) this shouldn't be a problem at all. Onto the swatches of a few new ones that I got recently, these are all 2 coats.

American Apparel Nail Polishes: L'Esprit, Butter, Summer Peach, Malibu Green Swatches and Review

american apparel summer colours
I received my American Apparel nail polishes today from the Friends and Family sale. I ordered 4 of the new summer colours: L'Esprit, Butter, Summer Peach and Malibu Green, (pictured above). Also ordered Palm Springs from the regular line, but it was back ordered, so that one should be coming in a few weeks. I really like AA polishes, they are quite runny, which makes for easy application, but they are very opaque, so you only need two coats. The colour selection is great and I like the square bottles, although they take some getting used to for swatch photots. These 4, aside from Maliby Green are pastels, light colours, which I've been buying a lot of lately. And Malibu Green was the standout colour in the new collection, very vibrant and unique.

American Apparel Nail Polishes: New Summer Colours Press Release

I recently picked up some nail lacquers from American Apparel and was quite pleased with them. Well, they are expanding their collection from 18 to 24 with 6 new colours for spring/summer (one is a topcoat).  Apparently the old colours were just an experiment and these new colours were meant to go together and suit the new styles they have coming in their clothing line this season. I've seen several nail bloggers get the press release for this collection.

The colours look cute. I am interested in Malibu Green, L Esprit and Summer Peach. I have seen very little swatches of these colours so far, so it's hard to say if they are good or not. But I am definitely intrigued. I also got a newsletter code today for 30% off May 13-16, and was going to use it on a few of these polishes, but when I enter it, it says invalid, so it gives me the suspicion that it's US only, typical. I wrote to customer service and we shall see what happens.

What do you think of these polishes? you getting any?

American Apparel Nail Polishes: Bottle Pics, Swatches and Review

american apparel polishes
I picked up some nail polishes from American Apparel on my recent Chicago trip. AA is a clothing, apparel store but they recently came out with polishes, which is cool. I was skeptical of a clothing brand making nail polishes, but they are really high quality. The polishes can be bought online or in store for 3 for $15, or $6 each USD. They have a nice variety of colours and they apply really nicely.

There was some controversy recently regarding these nail polishes, there was a voluntary recall when their bottles were breaking on people due to poor packaging. All of their bottles were pulled off the shelves and the store offered those that had bought the polishes exchanges and gift cards, as well as free bottles to apologize for the mistake. They were really good about giving customers 2 polishes for every 1 returned in the exchange program as well. Since then, they have rolled out new polishes, with more durable packaging and I haven't read of any problems since then. American Apparel nail polishes launched in December of last year and are DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde-free and manufactured in New York City.

The ones I picked up were: Mount Royal, Peacock, Office and Dynasty. The colours in their selection are a creme lovers dream. I wanted to get more, but I held back. These swatches baseless and topcoatless and all 2 coats. I totally dig these.

Haul from Chicago Trip

So I came back from Chicago yesterday and I thought I would show all the goodies that I got. The trip was made a lot more bearable by my cousin taking us around Chicago. We walked a lot, so much that I got blisters on my feet. But it's all good cause it was a good time. Maybe I'll post some photos of the scenery that I took, Chicago is really nice.

Onto the makeup.. we went to Walgreens, CVS, Ulta, Target, Marshalls.. didn't hit up a CCO unfortunately, but it was fine cause I spend too much money on everything anyway.

Left to Right: Revlon Foundation Brush, Sonia Kashuk Powder, Blush and Mineral Flat Top Brush, Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge, Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks in Soft Nude and Baby Pink, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Makeup, Revlon Lipgloss in Lilac Pastelle, Revlon Spa Concealer, Revlon Colorstay Mousse Foundation, American Apparel Nail Polishes (Peacock, Mount Royal, Dynasty and Office), Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion and Urban Decay Primer Potion XL in Sin.

I had to go to two Targets to get the Sonia Kashuk stuff, their brushes seem really popular, they are pricey for a drugstore brand though. And the blending sponge is cool, I've never seen those here, except Sephora and I don't have one near me, hence why I bought the Urban Decay Primer Potion XL as well.

The Lash Blast Fusion was really neat to see, only one Walgreens had it (we went to a couple), and we definitely don't have it in Canada yet, so that was cool. I think Walgreens is like Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada because it's on like every corner. Same with the Revlon brush and Revlon Colorburst lipsticks, and mousse foundation, we don't carry those.  And I was pleased to see one Lilac Pastelle lipgloss (from the Daydream collection) which was tucked in with the regular lipglosses, I snapped that up pretty fast! :D

We went to an Ulta too, it's kind of like Sephora or the beauty boutique section in Shoppers Drug Mart, there is a section for every brand and sales people standing around ready to help you. The one we went to had an upstairs too and that had drugstore brands and I got the Neutrogena healthy skin there, which I am excited to try out. We don't carry any Neutrogena makeup in Canada.

We have American Apparel in Canada, but not near me, so I picked up some polishes, they were 3 for $15. I got 4 cause I had trouble deciding which ones. I had Metro Chic on and wanted to get the Factory Grey colour and my sister was like... that one looks just like the polish you are wearing and Peacock looks like Suzy Says Feng Shui, if only she knew how many similar colours and dupes I had in my collection! And no, they are not the exact same.

All in all, I am happy with the items I got, I didn't see the L'oreal North Fork dupes anywhere! So I couldn't get them and didn't see the EOS lipglosses either. I will be reviewing these products as I use them. I will swatch the polishes next...

Oh, I also got one Milani nail polish in Pink Rocks, it's a neon colour and hated it so much, it has this weird gradient effect purple by the cuticles and more vibrant pink as it goes along to the nail line... eww and it wasn't cheap either. I should of opted for the Sinful Colors neons, they were only $1.99 at Walgreens...  And I saw a lot of girls wearing neon colours in Chicago, I guess it's "in".
