NEW Sigma Cleansing and Polishing Tool Unboxing

I love getting packages in the mail and today I had a really nice surprise! As part of being in their affiliate program, Sigma sent me their newest product, the New Cleansing and Polishing Tool! Sigma is known for their makeup brush line, but they are coming out with lots of new products. This post is in no means a review, I just got this today and while opening it took these pictures for you guys. I will go over how it looks and what it's supposed to do.

When I first heard about this product, I thought Sigma was doing a cheaper knockoff of the Clarisonic (Sigma claims their version is better). I did some research on the Clarisonic and what makes it different and more effective than all these other rotating brush products is that it's 'sonic', "Clarisonic systems use a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to gently, yet thoroughly remove 6X more makeup and 2X more dirt and oil than cleansing with your hands alone." I've never used a Clarisonic, but I have used drugstore dupes of it, like the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator. Basically what this product is meant to do is be an applicator for your skincare, you place your favourite cleanser or exfoliator on the brush head and then apply it to your face. The brush head vibrates or rotates and massaging the product into your skin, exfoliating dead skin cells and exposing fresh healthy skin.

This product retails online on the Sigma beauty website for $39 and comes in a pink plastic case, which is cute and handy for travel and keeping all the parts together. You get the cleansing and polishing tool and 3 different interchangeable brush heads. The product does not come with batteries, and requires 2 AA batteries, there are no cords or plugins needed, this is battery operated. Since it's battery operated however, it's definitely not as high-powered as something that you would plug in. You'll also get a brochure that explains how to use the product.

Here is how it looks with the lid up, you can see the 3 brush heads and the cleansing tool. I like how everything has it's own place in the container. However, I do find it difficult to get the brush heads out of the tight slots, I bent the plastic knobs on the one side in order to get it out more easily,

And here is what the tool looks like, this is the back of it, you can see the "Sigma Beauty" logo on the back. I find it's a good size, small and fits in my hand nicely, it's quite light too, but has enough weight to it that it doesn't feel cheaply made.

It comes with three brush heads, which is great that way it suits all skintypes and you can vary which one you use each day depending on what type of cleansing you want. The all white head is firm, recommended for occasional exfoliation of normal skin. This head is the roughest and most abrasive of the three, meaning it will give the more thorough cleansing.

The pink and white bristled head is medium, recommended for daily exfoliation of normal skin. This one is much softer than the white head. I think is the one that I would use most often.

The all pink head is for soft cleansing, idea for sensitive skin, recommended for daily cleansing and polishing. This is the softest head. This head is nice for gentle, delicate and quick cleansing.

The tool itself has two settings for rotation (I believe the Clarisonic only has one speed), when you click the pink button in the center once you get regular speed, click it again for high speed. Sigma has pointed out that they will sell replacements heads in the future, which is great because the heads will wear away and should be replaced. It's safe to use this in the shower.

Would I recommend this product? I think $39 is reasonable for this product. I like the idea of having a brush to apply my skincare products, it's like the lazy person's approach! However, I will have to force myself to remember to use this since I am more likely to just use my hands to apply products. If you can't afford the Clarisonic or don't want to invest that much money in a product, perhaps this Sigma version is a viable substitute, it's worth giving a try. What do you girls think?

Update: I wouldn't recommend to use this product on your face, it's way too rough. I do use this occasionally to exfoliate my body, in the summer I used it to scrub off my self tanning products. Does not substitute a Clarisonic for me at all.

I'm definitely going to buy my mom the new Sigma Cleanse&Polish but in my experience with Clarisonic-inspired brushes, they're too abrasive because of the rotating of the brush head. Hopefully my mom likes this one though.
P.S. The original Clarisonic has two speeds, the Mia is the one with one speed.

@Ashley - Thank you for clarifying! I think the all pink head is very soft, and it would be even softer when wet and with product on it. I hope your mom likes it!

Looks pretty cool! I like that they give you different brush heads for different purposes. How often do they recommend replacing the brush heads?

@Tracy - no mention anywhere of how often you should change them. I suspect when and if they start selling the separate heads they will make that known.

I would get one if I didn't already have a Clarisonic ( I have the mia) I like that it can go in the shower, I didn't thought maybe not because of the batteries.

Clarisonis says you should change your brush heads every 3 months or so, so it is probably the same with the Sigma.

@Bailey - how much was your clarisonic mia?

I love my Clarisonic but I can appreciate that not everyone wants to spend that kind of money. I'm curious to hear the reviews after people use this for a while :)

oh that's interesting
so many of these products now it seems
have you tried using it yet? how is it with cleansing?

i personally have a clarisonic (full size) and i love it! i put on makeup everyday, and the clarisonic removes ALL my makeup! it's amazing. but so expensive..
let us know if this one is good too! it's definitely a lot more wallet friendly

You definitely need to tell us how you like it.

I had a Clarisonic Pro which has four speeds but even with the sensitive skin brush head I sometimes felt it was too intense to use every night. I kinda want to try this but that rotating makes me think it might be a little too abrasive for me.

I probably just want it because it comes in that super cute case.

I got it from the shopping channel for $130 (I think..) it came with 3 cleansers and two brush heads, which usually aren't included with it.

I Have a Clarisonic Pro & a Mia. My mom has a Plus & a Mia and my sister-in-law has a Mia. We all love ours, including my husband (he uses his own brush head).

While I've not tried (and won't) this Sigma brush, I don't believe it, nor any other "dupe" on the market compares to the Clarisonic. The Clarisonic more-so pulses, back and forth, not rotate like the Sigma one, and I believe the Oil of Olay one does, too. I think the "dupes" are more for cleansing, while the Clarisonic is for cleansing AND exfoliating. I just don't think a rotating brush would exfoliate like the Clarisonic. There's a reason the Sonic technology is patented and there's reason the brush is so expensive.

Clarisonic recommends to replace your brush head every 3 months, however I do believe that is if you use it twice a day, daily. I only use it once and never on the days I use a manual exfoliate (scrub), but I have sensitive skin. My mom loves hers so much, she uses it twice a day, but her skin isn't sensitive. You'll know if you're using it too much... and most likely when you feel you need to change the brush heads.

I think the Sigma brush would be good if you're looking for a better wash/cleanse, but by ZERO means, is this comparable to a Clarisonic.

@Tania - Clarisonic makes a delicate head (it's base is blue), which is softer than the sensitive, so you might try that. :-)

I know that you got this for testing, but from your experience, what is it like ordering from Sigma? I live in Canada too... and I'm not ready to pay for additional taxes I'm unaware of once it gets here.

Justine (Productrater) said... Best Blogger Tips

@Dahlia - I have purchased from Sigma myself many times, and being in Canada, I have never been charged any further in customs or duty. I hope that helps. They do mark the correct value on the box however, so if you are placing a large order (hundreds or so) there is always a chance to get charged customs, although it's happened to be very rarely.
