Review Luxebox By Loose Button And Giveaway

Recently I was contacted by Loose Button to do a review and giveaway for their Luxebox. If you're not familiar with this brand, they offer a monthly beauty subscription service (similar to Birchbox in the US) for Canadians. For a monthly charge you get 4-5 deluxe beauty samples sent to you. The appeal of these subscription services is definitely the element of surprise of not knowing what you're going to get every month, receiving the cute box in the mail and opening it up. Their mission is to "help customers discover, try and purchase quality beauty products through a unique shopping experience." When you sign up for Luxebox you fill out a beauty profile and they try to tailor products to suit your interests.

I was sent September's edition of the Luxebox, it came in a brown cardboard box with a black ribbon around it. I tried my best to put the ribbon back on as nicely as possible (they are hard to put back on). Inside was a card personalized for me, which was a really nice touch!

Each box comes with a card that lists what items are included in the box, instructions on how to use the products and the full price of each item. I like that feature because you can compare what you got (and the size) with what a full sized product would cost, if you wish to purchase it in the future.

I received 4 items in mine (plus a Hershey Kiss chocolate which unfortunately did not last long enough to be included in the image!). The best part for me was the Moroccan Oil treatment, I've actually been using this product since the summer and enjoy it very much. I paid $14 for the exact same size that was included in the Luxebox so that makes the box worthwhile right there! Next was a Laura Mercier Hydrating Water, it's ...interesting, I have dry skin so anything "hydrating" in the name applies to me, the sample is small, but Laura Mercier products are expensive, so I was pleased this was included. I also received a Pur Minerals Mineral Glow bronzer (other people got the Seche Vite topcoat), it looks very orange in the picture but in person it's not so much, and it works well on my fair skin. The Mereadesso Face and Neck Toning Gel was the one product that made me go "huh?", it's not something that I would typically buy and I've never heard of the brand before, I suppose they are targeting an older demographic with this since someone in their teens would not necessarily be interesting in toning that area.

Loose Button currently costs $12/month (it went up from $9.99 when they first launched), $36 quarterly or $120 for a year subscription. I should also note that when Luxebox first launched earlier this year, I was all over it, I was a "founding member". After receiving my first initial Luxebox I wasn't wow'ed with the products that I received and did not order any more. When I was approached with the opportunity to review and do a giveaway I accepted, I felt that it was an opportunity for Luxebox to redeem themselves. I gotta say I am still half and half about it, I like the concept but I feel like they could definitely improve. I would love to see more makeup items included and more familiar, popular brands.

  6. I;m not sure exactly what I would like to see in the box but I'm really not interested in random perfume samples..they just don't seem to be "deluxe samples" to me...of the samples you got in yours I would be happiest to see the Morrocan Oil!

  16. Long time no see, stranger!

I'm not big on these boxes. Upping the price already is a huge no-no and gets a big finger wag from me. I like to be able to choose my products and get the feeling way too much stuff would stockpile rather than be used. Still, I understand the appeal and that MoroccanOil is a total score!
