Friday Faves: What's Your Favorite Foundation Ever?

I have an idea for a weekly Friday post, "Friday Faves", I will ask you girls what your favourite product is from a certain category as well as showing a peek into my makeup vault. You'll see me going back and forth between the US and Canadian spelling of "favourite" as I am Canadian, but I want my titles to be in the American spelling. This probably isn't a new idea, but I just thought of it today and I thought it would be cool. First up is foundation. I have lots of foundations, I don't know if I have more than the regular girl, tell me what you think. The picture doesn't have all of them, there are a few missing, I just grab these quickly.

Foundations is one of those items that I justify buying over and over again (even though I don't need more) because I want to find the perfect one of me and love trying out new ones. I really want to try the Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse but can you believe we STILL don't have it Canada?, it's ridiculous! I even see it in Canadian magazine ads and still nothing on the shelves! Some new purchases in my collection include Lancome Teinte Idole and Guerlain Lingerie De Peau which I picked up for free last weekend when I redeemed my Shoppers Drug Mart points. I will review those soon.

Anyways, what's my favourite foundation of all the ones I've tried? Nars Sheer Glow (which is nestled in the middle of my stash). I feel happiest with the result this one gives, it's not drying, feels light on the skin and gives good coverage. Since using other high-end foundations, Nars Sheer Glow comes to mind as being similar every time. I like how you don't have to pack a ton on to get the coverage that you want.

PS - The ELF Flawless Foundation is now available to buy on their website. I think I am going to wait to try this one out, but I definitely want to!

What's your favorite all time foundation?

  4. Whoa you have a lot! I haven't tried that many foundations, to be honest, but my favorite right now would have to be Sheer Glow too :)

  5. I like your post idea because it's nice to hear other people's favorites! Unfortunately I don't have a favorite foundation. I've tried quite a lot but not as many as you :P I'm still searching...

  6. I use to have a lot of foundation almost as close as yours lol because I'm always searching for the perfect one. I mostly buy drugstore brands but I'm slowly trying out high-end ones in hope to find a perfect one.

So far I'm still loving the Revlon Colorstay.

  7. I thought I had alot at like 10 :) I can't pick one! My two favs are the Maybelline Superstay 24 hr. and the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hr. Oh and I also really am loving the Neutrogena Healthy Skin for a dewy look!

  8. I spent years and years searching for the perfect foundation (for me) and finally found it a year or so ago - Chanel Mat Lumiere. It's my HG, and one of the few products I've ever repurchased. It's pricy - in Australia it retails for about $75 and it's not a whole lot cheaper on Strawberrynet - but for me it's worth it. And it seems to last a long time - you don't need a lot of product.

My back up is Revlon ColorStay. I HATE the packaging - so messy! - but I love the product. However, here in Oz it's about $38 a bottle which is ridiculous considering it costs about $12US and our dollar is pretty much at parity with the US at the moment. Grrrrr.

  11. @Dee- Chanel Matte Lumiere (the non matte version probably) is definitely one of my list and the Makeup forever HD as well, maybe if I get some gift cards for Christmas this year I will pick up those two.

  12. I have a lot of foundations as well. My favorite is Almay Nearly Naked. I told myself I wouldn't need another, but since I have said that I have bought 3. In my defense I do need compact foundations for school and work when I am running late and one that I bought was a compact. I've been wanting to try Nars Sheer Glow, but the price is holding me back. I just feel like all the foundations I've tried whether they are high or low end are the same.

  13. Holy Smoly! That's quite the foundation collection. I don't feel so guilty with the 6 that I've got ;)
I have to say that the Diorskin Nude Hydrating Makeup is my fave so far, but who knows, I might change my mind again when I find a new one. MAC Face & Body (which I see you also have) is a close 2nd.

  14. Oh my god, that's a ton of foundation. I have about 7 MAYBE, total. I think whenever I don't like a foundation, I try to use it up and then toss it.

  15. dang girl!!! you have all kinds!!! LOL... my favorite is the only one that you don't have in your collection - MUFE HD foundation... my holy grail!!!! the next one I wanna try is the Chanel Lumiere then I have a few more that I wanna try... I'm just waiting to finish atleast one bottle...

Friday faves?!? that's a great idea though! I love hearing what other bloggers like to use & stuff like that... =)

  16. I forgot to ask - have you tried Laura Mercier Moisturizing Foundation? I think I've found my favorite holy grail.

Then again I've only tried a handful of expensive brands before (and not even Nars...)

    Mac
    Chanel
    Laura Mercier.

    I think that's it?

  17. @Nancy - I guess some of us "hoard" makeup while others like air fresheners, toilet paper and razors (you probably know what I am talking about!). I haven't tried ANY laura mercier stuff believe it or not.

@annette - I think I would love makeup forever hd.. it's on the list,it was a "lusting after" blog post of mine months ago, maybe if Sephora decides to grace canadians with a VIB or friends and family discount this year.

  18. Haha, thats what my foundation box looks like! I seem to collect them! Its also the thing I buy most often cause I'm always looking for the next great one! My overall favourite, as of right now, is Annabelles Mineral Foundation. Great coverage, little shimmer and feels like nothing! :)

  19. @Shaylee Anne - I am glad that I am not the only one. ;)

  21. ohmy! I have only 6-7 and i already think there are a lot XD ahhahahaa but then i have over 40+ blushes too...hehe

my fave is Benefit Hello Flawless powder, i prefer natural look with powder instead of liquid :X dunno why when i use liquid foundation it tends to be very obvious on my skin - maybe i have bad skin?

  22. Oooh lovely collection.I have quite a lot as well but i still haven't found The One.
I tend to end up mixing 2 together a lot. I do keep going back to estee lauder doublewear but i also really like Mac face & body. I am dying to try Nars sheer glow, it's top of my wishlist x

  23. Wow!! Foundation is one of those things that I DON'T have.. I'm still looking for "the one." I've tried a bunch but have either returned them, swapped them, or given them away because they didn't work with me. You have quite a collection.

  26. Wow you have a lot of foundation!

I love Nars Sheer glow, I don't own it personally but I used my sisters while I was visiting her a couple of months ago, and it applied so easy and looked perfect. I have been meaning to buy it it's just so expensive and I can't believe I didn't think to buy it when Sephora was having their friends and family sale >:(

I love Revlon Color Stay of course. I haven't tried their Photoready, I may get it today since I have a 20% off Ulta coupon. I have the dream mousse as well, it's great. Love Bare Minerals... actually recently bought and returned it though.

I want to try MAC face and body, was just looking at that one on their site the other day!

  29. Is it sad that I'm drooling while looking at the first pic?? :)

My fave foundation so far is Revlon Colorstay, because it provides great coverage and it controls my oiliness!! :) Great stuff!!

  30. @leechee - I did see the maybelline dream smooth mousse in my walmart flyer online so I am hoping we have it! I think it would be great for dry skin, which I have. Will definitely try that out ;)

  31. I think a jaw-drop would be an understatement... LOL Woww... I *feel bad* when I have 4... since it'll take me years to finish! LOL

I hope you'll be using them!!

  32. @Steph - I try like every foundation that I can get my hands on, and I alternate what I use everyday. I won't go through them all in their entirety I am sure, but it's fun having so many! :)

  35. I was in my Wal-Mart today and they had the Dream Smooth Mousse there. FINALLY in Canada. There was a display of it even with testers! Hope this helps.

  36. @lovelylisa_152 - thanks for the tip! hopefully the wm's around me have this foundation too! will look for it.

  37. I saw the Maybelline Smooth Mousse that you've been looking for at my SDM (in Mississauga), there were testers on the display, but I think only 6 there. I don't use foundation myself, but the texture felt very nice but not mousse-like. Hope you find yours soon!

  38. Wow, that's a hella lot of foundation. I'd say I have around 4 or 5. I've found one I love so I don't really bother trying new ones very often.
I really don't think you're missing much with the Maybelline Mousse. I have dry skin too and the Maybelline Mousse's make it look flaky as hell.

  39. honey that's alot of foundations:-) I thought I had alot!!
My favourites at the moment are:
    Chanel Prolumiere
    Maybelline Liquid Mousse
    Yves Rocher Anti-aging

  40. millani eventone :) i cannot do without it its one of the only few drugstore foundations that match both my skintone and undertone :)

  41. I've been using Lancome Teinte Idole Fresh Wear for the last couple months. It claims to be 18 hour oil control but for my oily skin, it's more like... 7 or 8? And that's with a mattifier and setting powder. I do like how it doesn't provide heavy heavy coverage and it doesn't oxidize very quickly. But like you, I'm still on the hunt. My next one will be to try the Face Atelier line. =) My friend swears by Motives by Lauren something? The liquid mineral foundation. That'll also be on my next to try list!
