Review: Urban Decay Naked Palette

I finally got the Urban Decay Naked Palette, and if you saw my tweets, I actually got this baby for free. If you are in Canada, you'll know what I am talking about, Shoppers Drug Mart had a Beauty Bonus Redemption and I redeemed my points for $90 of free cosmetics, one of which was this palette. The Shoppers near me never had an Urban Decay section so I was floored when I found out the Yorkdale Mall location (in Toronto) had one and they had this palette in stock. I got there pretty late on Saturday, and was ready for disappointment but alas, I managed to get the last one in the store! I was amazed to finally have this baby in my hands. So if you are in Toronto, I'd suggest waiting to redeem this with your points, check if they have this in stock before and put it on hold.

This palette retails for $58 CAD and comes with 12 beautiful, neutral shadows, a mini Urban Decay Primer Potion (3.7ml) and a double-ended 27/7 pencil in Whiskey (brown) and Zero (black). The packaging is a sleek, brown velvet box that opens up with a mirror on the one side. The shadows are a good size, I've read that these are full sized UD shadows, I am not sure because I do not own any in full size. I do however have two other UD palettes, Ammo and Sustainable and can definitely tell you this palette is much more universal and wearable. The other two have crazy, very colourful shadows and many have severe fallout.

Let's take a look at the shadows that come in this, here is one half, these are more the neutral tones, Virgin (pale highlighter), Sin (champagne, came in Ammo), Naked (light matte brown), Sidecar (shimmery beige), Buck (medium matte brown), Half Baked (bronze, came in Sustainble).

And the more colourful side: Smog (golden brown shimmer, came in Ammo), Darkhorse (bronzey-plum shimmer), Toasted (taupe-bronze), Hustle (purple brown), Creep (blue-black metallic) and Gunmetal (dark blue-grey). My favourites are definitely Toasted and Hustle, I love purple-toned eyeshadows and these are very pigmented and rich. A disappointment for me was how sheer Creep was, that one really needs to be packed on to get proper pigmentation.

Here are swatches of all the shadows, you can see there is a good mix of matte and shimmers, and lots of shadows that you can pair together for pretty looks. If you are a fan of browns, I would definitely suggest this, but I don't have to tell you, everyone is crazy over this palette and I am glad that it is becoming less of a rarity to find nowadays, it's about time.

Do you have the Naked palette? What are your favourite eyeshadow combinations to wear with it?

  3. Wow, I'm so jealous. I had enough points to redeem for $90 but I didn't see anything I wanted. DID NOT know about UD at yorkdale. Can you do a post of the other things you bought?

  4. @Annie - I recently moved to Toronto so I am still learning, but I tweeted SDM and asked where else has UD and they responded: "Garden & Rossland, Queen & Beverly, Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Woodbridge Mall, Brookfield Place". Hope that helps!

The other things I redeemed for: Neutrogena Eye makeup remover, Revlon Colorburst lipgloss, Garnier Anti-circle eye roller (did a review of that a few days ago).

  5. I have it! But because of all my recent make up purchases, I've barely used it yet.

  6. Yay! Congrats on your palette :D I wish we had such great reward promos in the US. The Sephora rewards program kinda pales in comparison to a free Naked palette :(

  8. Eep! I'm beyond jealous. I haven't come across any SDM in Vancouver that carries Urban Decay. Been waiting for Sephora to stock the palettes for ages but it seems that'll never happen. Argh >:(

  10. @Rinny - You guys get awesome sales in the US like BOGO and the likes that we (in canada) never get. I know Ulta has sales too. Shoppers Drug Mart is decent, you collect points for every purchase (the key is to shop during 20x the points events to get as much points as possible for your purchases) and then redeem when it's a bonus redemption.

  15. I need to pay a visit to Yorkdale, I see! Nice job!

I have to confess: I got mine at the Shoppers @ Brookfield Place a few weeks ago. That location is amazing, you should check it out (they're closed on the weekend though, being in the financial district). They carry Guerlain, UD........ and Anna Sui!

  16. Hey, Justine!
My boyfriend bought me the NAKED palette for Valentines Day (what a sweet heart! :D) HAHA! And I absolutely love it! I use 'Sin' every time I use the palette! :$

My first combinations with the palette included Virgin in the inner corner, Sin for the first third of the lid, Buck for the second third of the lid and Darkhorse for the outer corner. So in the end, the look that I was left with was a nice brown smokey look. :)

The palette is so much fun to play with! Please post some looks up! :)

  18. That is awesome that you got that free! I'm still undecided if I want it or not, but those swatches look very tempting :D

  19. @Bailey - I was definitely on the fence too, products that have soo much hype turn me off. But for free why not?! I do like it, but like other UD palettes, some of the shadows suffer from fallout. I've been trying different shadow combinations each day and will do a complete updated review soon. Sidecar is really nice but lots of fallout with that one :(
