I am on a L'oreal kick lately and L'oreal products were 20% off recently at Rexall/Pharma Plus in Canada, so I picked this up, it was about $15 CAD. There aren't too many colours available, maybe like 8 total. I chose W1-2 (porcelain/light ivory), since I wear W2 in the True Match liquid and powder. It seems to look alright and the foundation itself is really smooth, like a very light cream consistency. You open it up and the product is on the left, and the roller on the right in it's own little compartment which has holes underneath to air it out. Also the back of the packaging is mirrored, so you can almost use it as a mirror on the go.
The roller is like a sponge, you hold the side of it so your hands do not touch the sponge at all. However, I don't know how well it would wash though, I suppose you just throw it out after several uses like you would with other sponge type applicators? Using that same roller for every application seems pretty unsanitary, I wonder what L'oreal has to say about that? I think after a couple of uses, the sponge roller would be too icky to use, and I would probably just use a brush to apply this and throw the roller away. The roller applies the makeup really smoothly, quickly and evenly, and by going over the same spot a few times, it blends it in nicely. It is difficult to maneuver around your nose and eyes at first, but you get used to it. I would still go over with a flat top or something or my hands around the jawline and hairline, but the roller is cool!
The coverage is advertised as "impeccable". Not sure what impeccable coverage is, but this covers pretty well, kinda light but complete enough for me, it's hard to overdo this makeup. The roller does not pick up too much (unless you go over and over with it, which I don't do), so you can layer it on depending on how much you want. I apply this in several thin layers (see pic above on varying coverage, one roll, two rolls and three). I am not crazy though how the colour seems to get darker and darker as you build it up!
Since breaking out from the L'oreal Bare Naturale mineral foundation, I am a bit apprehensive to use this roller foundation too much because I may break out from it too, hopefully not though. I think cream foundations work really well for those with dry skin, it covers alright and does not dry out your face. If you have problem skin and have a lot to cover up, I would not suggest this. If you have oily skin, I think this wouldn't last very long on your skin and may just slide off.
I thought the roller idea was innovative, even though I thought it was stupid at first, once I started using it, it grew on me. However, I am concerned about using that same sponge over and over, and even though the roller is cute, I should of probably just bought the compact cream makeup in this range. Although I really wanted to try it out and review it here for you girls!
Have any of you used this, do you use the sponge after multiple uses?
Interesting, we don't have this in Manila yet although I have seen and read this around. I should pick one up for myself, the idea of a roller for your face really sounds weird to me. But thanks for the review, makes me want to try one now :)
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to try it, but creamy foundations usually breaks me out. I dont think i would want to use the roller over and over, but the idea sure is fun!
ReplyDeleteI have this foundation and I don't use it...I don't like it at all.

Wow, I can really tell that you're on a L'Oreal kick! LOL
ReplyDeleteYea, I feel kind of grossed out about the sponge. You're just re-rolling your facial oil and bacteria on your face!
